Anna Watkins, MD of Barrafina Group and Harts Group Director, Awarded Prestigious Spanish Honour

Anna Watkins, Managing Director of the Barrafina Group and Director of Harts Group, has been awarded the Cruz de Oficial de la Orden de Isabel la Católica (Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic) by the Spanish Government, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting Spanish culture and cuisine internationally.

The Order of Isabella the Catholic, established in 1815, is one of Spain’s preeminent civil orders of merit, bestowed upon individuals who have rendered extraordinary service in support of Spain or fostered international relations and cultural exchange.

A formal presentation ceremony took place at the Spanish Embassy in London on 26th March 2026, hosted by the Spanish Ambassador.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Spanish Government,” said Anna Watkins. “Spain’s regional culinary traditions, its producers, and its extraordinary biodiversity have always been at the heart of Barrafina. This award reflects not only my work, but the dedication of our entire team in championing authentic Spanish hospitality.”

Since joining Barrafina, Anna has played a pivotal role in elevating Spanish cuisine both in the UK and internationally. Under her leadership, Barrafina opened its first overseas site in Dubai in January 2026, marking the beginning of a wider expansion across Southeast Asia.

Anna has championed Spanish food culture through initiatives including Barrafina Invita, a series showcasing Michelin-starred Spanish chefs such as Jordi Bross from Mugaritz, Xavier Pellicer, and María Marte, who create exclusive tasting menus in London.

She has forged partnerships with small, family-run producers across Spain – specialists who’ve been refining their craft for generations and who share Barrafina Group’s commitment to quality, sustainability and respect for the land. These relationships support local communities, protect Spain’s incredible biodiversity, and honour traditional methods.

Beyond hospitality, Anna has demonstrated a commitment to social impact through a charitable partnership with Esment, a Mallorcan foundation supporting people with learning disabilities, to which Barrafina donates a percentage of proceeds.

This award recognises Anna’s longstanding dedication to celebrating Spain’s culinary heritage, supporting regional producers, and creating meaningful cultural connections between Spain and the UK.
