Barrafina Invita 08: Daniel Ochoa (Montia), 5th March 2025
Barrafina is proud to announce Daniel Ochoa of Madrid’s Michelin-starred restaurant Montia as the latest guest chef in the series. Barrafina Invita, in partnership with Gin Mare, celebrates the breadth and quality of Spanish cooking from across Spain and the rest of the world. Ochoa will cook a special menu at Barrafina Borough Yards for one night only.
Located in the heart of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Montia serves market-fresh, hyper local cuisine using ingredients that are sourced from small artisanal suppliers and producers in the hills of Madrid. In what he describes as his ‘wild cuisine’, chef Daniel Ochoa explains:
“We go back to our roots, to nature and to the mountains to create, with the help of local farmers and livestock breeders, concentrated stews, willows with depth and light combinations. Always seasonal, slow-cooked and with a lot of patience.”
The 8-course tasting menu will feature dishes such as chanterelles, butter & saffron; pork cheek, beetroot & Thai basil; and the unmissable ‘star dish’ of Callos stew.
Montia was awarded a Michelin star in 2015, which the restaurant tragically lost in 2021 following a fire in the premises. They regained the star in 2023, which they have retained since.
Daniel Ochoa will be cooking a special set menu at Barrafina Borough Yards on the evening of 5th March. The experience is priced at £85 per person and includes a Gin Mare welcome drink and set menu. Further drinks and service not included.
