The Drop and Two Drops, the neighbourhood bars known for their top-tier toasties, wine and Guinness, are delighted to welcome their next guest toastie: the ‘Jarlsberg, Ham & Green Chilli Melt with Hazelnuts & Herbs’ by acclaimed Scandinavian food writer and cookbook author Signe Johansen.

Running from Monday 1st September to Friday 31st October, this warming, comfort-driven toastie celebrates Signe‘s Norwegian heritage through melting Jarlsberg cheese whilst embracing quintessentially British flavours – roasted ham, Colman’s mustard powder and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Elevated with toasted hazelnuts, fresh herbs, finely chopped shallots and a green chilli kick, it’s a sophisticated take on comfort food that feels both familiar and excitingly new.

The toastie is his playful reimagining of the classic tuna melt, amped up with gochujang (one of Gurdeep’s 15 ‘flavour heroes’), spring onion, pickled ginger and crunchy radish, grilled until golden and oozing with melted cheese. A taste sensation built for deep comfort and thrillingly tasty enjoyment.

“As we head into autumn, I wanted to create something that felt like a warm hug – the kind of toastie that nods to my Norwegian roots while embracing the British pantry staples I’ve come to love living in London. There’s something wonderfully comforting about melting Jarlsberg with good ham, but the hazelnuts and herbs lift it into something special. It’s the sort of thing I’d make at home when I want proper comfort food with a bit of excitement.” – Signe Johansen

Signe Johansen is the bestselling author of seven books including Solo: The Joy of Cooking for One (named to the Sunday Times List of Best Food Books of the Year), ScandiliciousHow To Hygge, and most recently Spirited. A graduate of Cambridge University with a Masters in food anthropology from SOAS, Signe has trained at Leiths School of Food and Wine and worked in several of the UK’s top restaurants. Her recipes appear regularly across major UK press including the FTThe TimesSunday Times and delicious. Magazine, and she’s been featured on Sunday Brunch and What’s Cooking.

This toastie is the latest in an ongoing guest series at The Drop in Coal Drops Yard and Two Drops in Battersea Power Station, part of Harts Group, the team behind Barrafina, Quo Vadis, El Pastor and more. Both bars are known for pairing great drinks with proper toasties, served all day in a warm, casual setting.

Signe Johansen’s Jarlsberg, Ham & Green Chilli Melt will be available from Monday 1st September until Friday 31st October at both venues, priced at £14.50.
