Harts Group Supports the VAT’s The Problem Campaign

Hospitality is one of the UK’s largest employers and one of its most important contributors to social and economic life – to cities, neighbourhoods, local communities and the millions of people it employs. It is also a sector under significant pressure, with rising costs across employment, utilities, food and property affecting businesses across the industry.

That is why Harts Group is proud to support VAT’s The Problem, the industry-wide campaign calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%.

Sam Hart, CEO says:

“The businesses that make this industry what it is are under real pressure. VAT reform won’t solve everything, but it would give hospitality the breathing room to invest, grow and keep doing what it does best.”

Led by Tom Kerridge and backed by businesses across the country, the campaign is calling for a fairer tax framework that reflects the contribution hospitality makes to the UK economy. Countries including Spain, France, Italy, Ireland and Germany already support their sectors with lower VAT rates. The campaign calls for the UK to do the same.

We are proud to support this campaign and to stand alongside businesses across hospitality in calling for a VAT rate that supports the long-term health of the sector.

The campaign launches on 1st July and you can show your support by signing the petition at vatstheproblem.co.uk.

Further information is available on the campaign website.
